If you’re researching pool prices in the Tampa Bay area, you’ve probably seen numbers all over the map. That’s because every pool is different. Size, features, site conditions, and construction method all affect the final number.
Here’s what we can tell you from building custom pools across Pasco, Hillsborough, and Pinellas counties.
What Custom Pools Actually Cost in This Market
In the Tampa Bay area, custom shotcrete inground pools typically range from $55,000 to $120,000 depending on size, features, and finishes. Here’s how that breaks down:
| Pool Size | Approximate Range |
|---|---|
| Cocktail (10x20) | $55,000 - $75,000 |
| Classic (12x24) | $75,000 - $95,000 |
| Family (14x28) | $85,000 - $115,000 |
| Resort (16x32) | $110,000 - $150,000 |
| Estate (18x36+) | $145,000+ |
These ranges include the pool shell, Pentair equipment package, Pebble Sheen interior finish, and standard paver coping. They do not include decking, enclosures, or outdoor living features.
What Affects the Price
Pool size and shape. A larger pool requires more excavation, more steel, more concrete, and more finish material. Freeform shapes cost more than geometric rectangles because of the additional forming work.
Interior finish. We use Pebble Sheen and PebbleTec exclusively. Both carry a lifetime manufacturer warranty. The color you choose doesn’t affect the price, but upgrading to PebbleTec’s premium blends adds $2,000-$4,000.
Decking material. Travertine pavers run about $25/sqft installed. Standard pavers are closer to $15/sqft. Porcelain tile is around $30/sqft. A typical 6-foot surround on a 14x28 pool is roughly 500 square feet of decking.
Equipment. Every Acqua Bella pool includes a full Pentair automation package: IntelliFlo3 variable speed pump, IntelliCenter control, IntelliChlor salt system, and IntelliBrite LED lights. Adding a heat pump runs $5,000-$6,000. A gas heater is slightly less.
Screen enclosure. Most Tampa Bay homeowners add a screened enclosure. Pricing varies based on pool and deck dimensions, but expect $15,000-$40,000 depending on size and roof style.
Site conditions. High water tables (common in parts of Pasco County), rock, or difficult access can add to excavation costs. We assess this during the free on-site consultation.
Shotcrete vs. Gunite: Why It Matters for Your Budget
Most Tampa Bay pool builders use gunite (dry-mix concrete). We use shotcrete (wet-mix). The difference: shotcrete produces a denser, stronger pool shell with fewer voids. It costs slightly more in material but saves money long-term because it’s more resistant to cracking and water infiltration.
Both methods are sprayed concrete, but the mixing process is different. Shotcrete is pre-mixed with water before it leaves the nozzle. Gunite adds water at the nozzle. That difference in process produces a measurably stronger result.
